Embracing Vulnerability: My Journey Toward Self-Acceptance

Motherhood is a whirlwind. A beautiful, messy, laughter-filled, heart-wrenching whirlwind. It’s a constant dance between sacrifice and fulfilment, a journey of learning and growth unlike any other.

Before becoming a mother, the internet painted a picture of “having it all” – a successful career, thriving social life, and picture-perfect family outings. While these options exist, they don’t always paint the full picture. The truth is motherhood often requires embracing vulnerability and accepting that our lives will change.

Gone are the spontaneous brunches and last-minute getaways. Sleep becomes a scarce resource, and our bodies carry the indelible marks of our journey. Yet, amidst the exhaustion and the sleepless nights, there’s an overwhelming sense of love and purpose that is simply indescribable.

Motherhood is also a period of emotional vulnerability, filled with fears, Anxities, and a constant internal dialogue about fulfilling various roles. Yes, motherhood is demanding. It’s filled with sleepless nights and a constant undercurrent of worry. Our hormones dance a wild tango, and juggling the roles of mother, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law can feel like an impossible feat. This is compounded by the constant feeling of running behind the world, indirect comparisons with others. This is especially true during maternity break, but it tends to continue much longer, with new reasons popping up until our children are much older.

We often refer to this phase as postpartum depression, but the truth is, it goes beyond that. It’s pervasive sense of inadequacy, of falling short, even when we’re doing our absolute best. The question “when is it going to end?” hangs heavy in the air.

But amidst the chaos, there’s room for us. Room to acknowledge our struggles, to embrace vulnerability and say, “This is hard.” It’s okay to crave a night out with friends, to miss the independence of our pre-mom life, to yearn for a moment of quiet contemplation.

This isn’t selfishness, it’s self-awareness. It’s recognizing that by taking care of ourselves, mentally and emotionally, we become better mothers, wives, daughters, and individuals.

The journey towards self-acceptance is ongoing. There will be setbacks, moments of self-doubt, and days when you feel like you’re barely keeping it together.

But here’s the secret: it’s okay not to have it all figured out. It’s okay to struggle. In fact, embracing our vulnerabilities opens the door to self-acceptance and connection.  I’ve struggled to carve out time for myself. I’ve felt overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood and lost sight of my passions. I’ve questioned my choices and grappled with self-doubt.

But I’m learning. I’m learning to ask for help, to delegate, and to prioritize moments of self-care, no matter how small. I’m learning to embrace the “imperfectly perfect” version of myself as a mother, wife, daughter, and most importantly, as an individual.

This journey is about shedding the pressure to be everything to everyone. It’s about acknowledging our vulnerabilities and recognizing that they are not a sign of weakness, but a testament to our humanity. It’s about accepting the beautiful chaos of motherhood while nurturing the person we are outside of this incredible, demanding role.

Remember, mamas, you are not alone. We are all on this journey together, learning and growing with every step. Let’s embrace our vulnerabilities, find solace in our imperfections, and celebrate the beautiful mess that is motherhood, one imperfectly perfect moment at a time.

Men and their “I’m fine” routine is super classic. They won’t talk, won’t share, and definitely won’t admit they’re stressed. Instead, they keep everything bottled up until frustration spills out in the most dramatic way possible. I even have friends who proudly say, “I don’t share my problems with anyone—not even my family…!!!!

I’m Saya (Sai)

Life's a juggling act (and I'm a pro!)
I’m a wife, a mama, and a tech newbie, figuring things out as I go. I’m also a total gym rat (and proud snack enthusiast!). My day-to-day is about keeping my family smiling while chasing my dreams. I’ve done the sales hustle and built my own business before, which toughened me up for anything. Being a woman is a huge part of my journey, and I’m super proud of who I’ve become.
Bonus: my kiddo thinks I’m a rockstar!
